What are cookies?

Cookies make it possible to understand which pages of the site are most visited as they allow seeing which pages are visited and for how long. Through these data, it is usually possible to make the site more consistent with user requests and simplify navigation.
Reference Legislation
Italian legislation (Art. 122 of Legislative Decree 196/03 "Personal Data Protection Code", hereinafter briefly "Code") introduced a European Directive into our legal system that requires website operators using cookies or other monitoring technologies to inform the user about the types of any cookies used by the site. Provision No. 229 of May 8, 2014 of the Italian Data Protection Authority (later updated with the Guidelines of June 10, 2021) categorized cookies into two macro-categories: "technical" cookies and "profiling" cookies.
Technical cookies
Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of "carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such service" (cf. Art. 122, paragraph 1, of the Code).
They are not used for further purposes and are normally installed directly by the website owner or operator . They can be subdivided into navigation or session cookies; analytics cookies, assimilated to technical cookies where used directly by the site operator to collect information in aggregate form; functionality cookies. Prior user consent is not required for the installation of such cookies.
Profiling cookies
Profiling cookies are aimed at creating user profiles and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user while browsing the web . The legislation provides that the user must be adequately informed about their use and thus express their valid consent.
